Exactly four years ago when Don’t Memorise was no more than a pipe dream, Akash, the son of the cook who works for my family, approached me asking if I had a job for him. At this point I was just creating math videos for middle school students I was teaching. Given his humble background I asked him whether he knew how to use a computer as my vision was to create high quality animated math videos. He didn’t, but his words “I want to work hard and earn money, sir” struck a chord.
Having read everywhere that the key to a successful venture was dependent on hiring the best talent I was uncertain if Akash was the right fit. Aside from not being computer literate, he was also a student. Given the academic pressure in India I doubted whether he would be able to balance working and studying. All the same, I decided to interview him.
During our 20 minute interview his sincerity, determination to work hard and eagerness to learn gave me a positive vibe. “Give me a chance and I will learn everything you want me to” and so I took a chance and hired Akash!
I recall spending a few days training him how to use 2 different types of animation software and then work began. I was apprehensive about how Akash would respond to the new challenge he had been given. In the end, Akash surpassed my expectations and more. Within a couple of months Akash was not only proficient in these but was also discovering and using a multitude of other software on his own initiative. I was also pleasantly surprised by his work ethic, not taking a single day off in spite of still being a full-time student!
Having worked with Akash over the past 4 years I have come to understand that what makes the ‘best talent’ is not necessarily experience — its passion, dedication, continuous learning and a positive approach! These are all qualities Akash has displayed and made him an integral part of the 4 million plus free lessons Don’t Memorise has delivered to date. Even though I may have taught him how to use software and acted as a mentor, he has taught me the most important lesson of them all: a never-ending desire to learn!
Whilst working with Don’t Memorise part time Akash has also continued to excel in his studies and is now in the final stretch of a Bachelor of Management Studies. Admittedly I feared and anticipated that Akash’s ambition post graduation would be to move on and pursue his career with a large multinational. Many study with that goal! Once again, and this time to my relief, Akash surprised me. “I want to join Don’t Memorise full time, Ganesh”
Now, as I look forward to welcoming him as a full-time team member after his graduation, I find this perfect opportunity to thank Akash for his commitment and dedication. Akash, it has been one incredible journey supporting you grow from the 18 year old who couldn’t use a computer to the highly talented animator you are today.

It has been an honour for the entire DontMemorise.com team to have the opportunity to join forces with the Adani Foundation in our first school collaboration. Over the past 6 months we have had the privilege to work closely with the Adani Foundation team and teaching staff to implement e-learning solutions in two of their schools – Adani Vidya Mandir School, Ahmedabad and Adani Public School, Mundra. Experiencing first-hand their commitment to education and the resulting thirst students have for learning truly supports their vision ‘Education is an Act towards empowerment… Only when we Act can India get stronger’.
DontMemorise.com has recently been contracted by Hindustan Times Learning Centres to act as a multimedia partner in their upcoming E-learning venture. They currently have 29 state of the art learning centres with over 5000 students enrolled across Delhi/NCR from class 8 to 12. We look forward to supporting them in their new venture over the coming years with our high quality educational content.
On a personal note, it has been an extremely rewarding experience this year to have collaborated with Ted-Ed as educator to create 2 of their animated ‘lessons worth sharing’ this year – one of which has garnered over 3 million views! Through collaborating with Ted-Ed, DontMemorise.com resources have also been shared with their huge user base that spans the globe!
2016 has also seen two free DontMemorise.com Test Prep courses launched on Udemy.com, an online education market place. These courses have over 4000 subscribers and one of the best rated courses at 4.7! DontMemorise.com ends the year with over 30000 subscribers across its website, YouTube channel and Udemy and over 2.7 million views.

Did you know we use logarithms in many ways in everyday life?
They play a vital role in measuring the magnitude of earthquakes, radioactive decay and population growth. Logarithms are also commonly used by bankers to determine the present value and future value of investments. In fact, any time you want to better understand numbers of very large and small magnitudes make use of logarithms!
So, what are logarithms?
Logarithms are simply another way to write exponents. Exponential and logarithmic functions are inverses of each other. With my love of math and fascination for simplifying complex problems I made my first educational video whilst tutoring online. It was here that I experienced first-hand how edtech can revitalise the learning process.
So what did I learn? There are two key elements for digital learning to be effective. Firstly, and most importantly content must be relevant in order to have the maximum impact. Not only curricula aligned but also with a strong conceptual element to bridge the gap between theory and application. Secondly, a User Interface that gives learners a personalised and diverse learning environment. This includes courses comprising of a series of bite-sized videos to give learner flexibility, playlists to keep track of learning and quizzes to test understanding.

We are proud to launch our ‘High School Mathematics’ course with an exciting series of videos covering matrices. Not only do we cover the core principles of matrices, we encourage you to develop your computational thinking skills! As always, your feedback plays a crucial part in creating resources that optimize your learning experience.
Over the coming months we will be building up our library of ‘High School Mathematics’ with more topics. These will primarily follow 9th and 10th grade syllabi but also touch on 11th and 12th grade. So stay tuned!
With the year drawing to an end I would like to personally extend my thanks to you for your support over the past year.
In 2013 I started Don’t Memorise as a one-man venture, my vision to create learner centric ‘lessons’ that are freely available to all. Since then the Don’t Memorise team has grown to 12 highly creative and talented individuals all working towards inspiring learners across the globe to want to ‘Know More!’. The combined passion and drive of each of these individuals behind the scenes makes Don’t Memorise the success it is today.
2015 has been an exciting year for us! The beginning of the year saw the launch of our YouTube channel which now averages 70,000 views a month. We now have over 1100 captivating math resources that meet your middle school and test prep learning needs, and the chance to give your brain a workout with our newly launched WARP math series! Don’t Memorise resources are not only accessible on our site and YouTube, but also embedded in over 15 other educational sites. Aside from creating educational resources we have enjoyed interacting on various educational sites helping students solve specific problems. On one such site, Socratic.org, around 12,000 students in 120 countries have had their learning supported by Don’t Memorise to date!
The team and I truly value those of you who have chosen to share your learning journey with us.
